About GeekGive
GeekGive is an organization dedicated to community outreach
projects at technical community events.
GeekGive started as a discussion among community influentials at
the INETA party at
Microsoft Tech·Ed North America 2009. These
individuals; Steve Andrews (Washington), Sara Ford
(Mississippi), Mark Rosenberg (California), and Rob Zelt
(North Carolina); were discussing that Tech·Ed 2010 would be in New
Orleans, LA, an area devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and
the desire to give back to the local communities that are still so
much in need.
Shortly after returning home, Steve started organizing the first
GeekGive event with instrumental support from Dani Diaz and Jennifer Marsman, both
employees at Microsoft. The following year, GeekGive helped 19
Tech·Ed North America attendees volunteer with Habitat for Humanity
in New Orleans, LA.
